The journal continues. Sakell has too much fun with explosives. Their shopping list is ridiculous. The group went back in time and found out about this curse aimed to end creation - the one we're trying to stop. And who sent it? God, of course. That's what we're up against. As I expected. So I have to keep my position as go-between, able to ally with the light and the darkness. Anyway, it seems that someone's going to attack the elf. (Gee, why would anyone want to do that?) He's been awfully evasive about it - time paradox problem, we assume. We (I) guessed that it would be demon trouble, but everyone is steadfastly refusing to plan. And getting all kinds of guns which won't do any good. We went to San Francisco, where the attack would happen. There some of us first met David Chappell. What a goofball. Still, he's a friend of Jay's, and he's putting us up at his place, and he let me use his computer. It was good to see Martian and the midgardians again. Pity about my Lambda characters. (And Skaar in ghost form kept trying to kick me over to penthouse sites. Sheesh.) Besides the guns and explosives, we have picked up some more holy water and crosses. So we have some weapons, but we have no plan. This is nuts. But I'm not going to say it. I got a nice black cloak - finally - and a book about some protection magics, and a nice wand - it doesn't seem to be magical, but it's cute and reminds me of the one I broke. (Jay and I were wandering Haight-Ashbury while Skaar was getting tattooed.) Oh, yes, the eagles. That's part of the curse. And there are five, and the Hell Freezes Over bit was in '94 oh well. The elf hasn't been around since he dropped us here. We don't know what's going on, except that something's going to happen to him tomorrow, possibly at this place Jon dreamed about, and we have to stop it. And there may be an earthquake involved, says Jay's precog. I guess we're just basically along for the ride, and hope we figure out what to do when the bomb hits. At the bottom of this page two female faces are drawn in pencil, one looking down with a frown, one looking up, frightened. The journal continues on the next page, in black ink, the handwriting shaky and very hard to read. I did nothing. I didn't even try. I should have known, should have thought ahead. I was only thinking of myself. We showed up at this place on the day, thinking we'd have a little time to scout and stake out. But almost immediately we saw the elf and these strange suits going after him. Jeremy shot one with the holy water and he started smoking. Bingo - target sighted. They started pulling out this black chain-net thing and going after the elf - there was a struggle, but I was across the street and it took forever to get over there. They sprouted wings and took off and I had a voice in my head telling me not to interfere, becausee it might upset the balance. It was a demon, and I think the others heard them too, but I wouldn't know that until later. Anyway, Jeremy grabbed hold of one of the demons, which then had lots of wings and looked like angels, and got carried away, banging on it with a crucifix. Jon threw a spear at them before they went too far, then we followed them with the car. I suppose I knew then that he was lost, really. He was too high. We could hardly expect the demons to lower him safely. But I was somewhat distracted - I had Dagon in my head again telling me to make the group turn around, give up the mission - not that we really knew how we were supposed to do anything, with the elf captive in chains and out of our reach. Jeremy still had a radio headset on and we were watching him as best we could out the car windows. They were fighting in the air, and I heard him call for Odin. Then there was a face in the sky, which coalesced into another golden winged being - I suppose it's a standard form for immortals on Earth's plane? Odin sent a lightning bolt at them, and then a building came flying by. Odin slammed the building down onto the flying demons, and when we could see, there was only one demon, no sign of the other or Jeremy or the trapped elf. It all got very confused then. Buildings were flying and another Enedel showed up and Dagon was still beating on my head and the city was shaking. We found the crashed upside-down pyramid and went in after Jon's spear - it had been stuck into the other demon when he was hit - he must have phased out and Jeremy and the spear must have solidified in the building. We didn't have a chance to look for him, everything was likely to collapse. We got out, freed the elf from the chains, and escaped through a portal Chappell opened. We left Jeremy for dead.
